Welcome to Chewandswallow!

Welcome to Chewandswallow, the land of extreme weather! For the past few weeks, the Kindergarten room was transformed into Chewandswallow while we learned all about weather, meteorologists, and did a book study of Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs.
While in Chewandswallow, the Kindergartners tracked the weather each day, predicted the weather like real meteorologists, performed a few science experiments and rain and wind, and learned about various tools that we use to track weather. We also learned about important aspects of weather like temperature, types of clouds, and different types of weather.
During our last week of our time in Chewandswallow, we had our very own NDA Daily News! Kindergartners studied the current weather conditions, recorded them, and shared them with the class in their very own weather forecast. It quickly became a class favorite activity and may be staying in the classroom a bit longer than the falling food! Enjoy a few pictures from our time in Chewandswallow below!

Our 100th Day!

So much celebration had to happen this year! We've made it through 100 days of learning. The 100th day is a big deal in Kindergarten! We are beyond blessed to have been able to be in school during this season of life when others are learning from home. 100 days of memories, laughter, Kindergarten stories, books, and so much learning!
On our 100th day, we counted to 100 all day, we talked about 100 things that make Kindergartners happy, we wrote all about the number 100, we created a picture using the numbers 1, 0, and 0. We also tried to see how tall of a tower we could build with 100 cups and even searched around our rooms for 100 Hershey kisses (all with a number from 1-100 on them.) We then matched the number on the bottom to the number on our 100's chart. It was such a special day! Look below for so many pictures from our amazing celebration!

What We Love

Love is in the air and we have been sharing all the different things that we love in Kinder! We decided to super size our love with this project! The Kinders worked with their 8th grade buddies to create giant hearts with 5 intersecting lines. After that, the Kinders created a list of several things that they love.
One exciting part about this activity was that the Kinders did it all on their own! They wrote out their list of things that they love on a white board and then copied it onto their hearts (with Sharpie which is always a highlight!)
They were SO excited to share their heart map of things they love!

Catholic Schools Week

We hope that all had a wonderful Catholic Schools Week!

We spent CSW celebrating our school, our faith, and our community! One thing that we do each year is create a flipbook highlighting many of the things that we love about our school. We were able to reflect on what we love about our church, our school, and what we love to pray for.
This is such a special project and hearing what the Kinders come up with is truly eye-opening and precious. These Kinders are ever so grateful, thoughtful, and proud of everything that they are doing and learning!

Kindergarten Kindness Crates

Kindness is such a fundamental part of learning, living, and throughout our lives. What better way for the Kinders to practice kindness than by surprising all the teachers with cards, treats, and Kindergartners saying "Thank you!"
We spent Thursday afternoon going to each grownup in the school and saying "Thank you for all you do!" and then letting them grab a treat (or two!)
Watching this experience was truly magical. Before we delivered our first treats, the Kinders were sad to hear that the packages of Oreos weren't for them. This quickly changed. After we went to the lunchroom to deliver things to our amazing lunch staff, the Kinders were buzzing.

They discovered that giving to others made them feel SO good. They were jumping for joy and beyond excited to visit all the other grownups.

By the end of the project, the Kinders were telling the teachers that "they needed to try to Oreos, they are the best!" and "You can have a treat, or two, or five!"

Make sure to ask your Kinder about our afternoon of Kindergarten Kindness! We're looking forward to spreading some more kindness around the school again soon!

All Aboard the Polar Express!

A highlight of Kindergarten is our time spent traveling the world on the Polar Express! Every December, we pack our suitcases, make our passports, grab our tickets and adventure around the world, learning about how other countries celebrate Christmas and comparing their traditions to ours!
Throughout this adventure, we learn how to say "Merry Christmas" in the language spoken in each country, discover a few special foods, toys, or traditions that they have, and read several books from each of the countries. It is such a magical time, full of exploring new things and opening our eyes to the world around us! This year, we were able to travel to countries like Mexico, Sweden, Australia, and England to name a few!

Take a look a a few pictures from our adventure around the world!

Gingerbread Jar Journals

This week was one of my favorite weeks in Kindergarten! This week, the Kindergartners read SO many gingerbread character books and we compare/contrasted all the story elements in them! The Kinders compared the setting, characters, the main character, and the repeated words together. Then, the Kinders compared the endings of the story in their very own journals!
We would talk about the ending and the the Kindergartners would create and write a sentence all of their own! After they wrote their sentence, they drew their picture, which showed the ending and what happened. We discovered that gingerbread books have SO many similar qualities but they all are just a little bit different from one another!

Our 50th Day!

Can you believe that we have been in school for 50 days?? Wow! Not only have we been in school for 50 days but we have been in person that whole time. It was clearly time for a celebration!! On our 50th day, we traveled back in time to the 1950's! While in the 1950's, we talked about what life was like then and compared it to what we have and use now. The Kinders were so surprised that a record is how they used to listen to music, especially since we just use things like our phones and Alexa now!
While rocking away in the 1950's, we practiced alphabetical order with 1950's vocabulary, used our eagle eyes to find sight words in 1950's pictures, and then had a sock hop!
There were SO many friends saying "This is the best day ever!" You can't ask for more than that on the 50th day! Check out some pictures below!
